Thoughts before watching the trailer

Oh my GOSH. I literally just opened my phone today, refreshed Toy Story 5 news online, saw that there were a few TikToks discussing something about a Toy Story 5 trailer, and then my eyes lit up. “Oh?” Sure enough, I checked YouTube, and, lo and behold, there it was: The Toy Story 5 trailer which I have been waiting for for MONTHS NOW!!

No dilly-dallying. Time to click “Play”!

0:00 to 0:15

Absolutely loved the 2D, colourful, expressive, and cartoony sequence here. It looks sooo nice, and it shows how much the art style and animation have improved ever since Toy Story 1. I always love to see art style evolution in animated movies’ future instalments (e.g., Bambi I VS Bambi II’s).

0:40 to 0:42

“Mhm. Yeah. Got it.” ☠️ Me whenever someone's talking to me about a subject I'm not really interested in.

1:12 to 1:14

One of my few dislikes about this trailer is this line delivered by Jessie. She just sounds so sad here and I don't like hearing characters I care about be sad like that.

1:40 to 2:10

My FAVOURITE part of the trailer!! I love how the background music ramps up in intensity.

“So long, toys!” *Lilypad winks* Aw, screw you Lily! I hate it when villains taunt the heroes like that; it makes me want to see their inevitable downfall even more.

This version of You Got A Friend In Me is BEAUTIFUL, my gosh. Its epic, grand, almost holy-like melody gives the trailer this equally epic and grand vibe. I love it.

The sunset here is so pretty. Again, it really shows just how far the Toy Story movies have come in terms of visuals and art. This movie’s art style looks great, and looks EVEN BETTER than Toy Story 4!

2:16 to 2:18

Wait, who were those two toys who spoke?? I don't recognise their voices. It's definitely not Mr. Potato Head.

EDIT: After some cheeky video-pausing, I realised that it was, in fact, Mr. Potato Head with a new voice actor, as well as Slinky.

Thoughts after finishing the trailer

WOW. Um, okay, where to begin…

My only gripes with this trailer were:
1) That sad Jessie line I mentioned earlier; and


2) The fact that it didn't show Atlas, Smarty Pants, and Snappy (the three new toys alongside Lilypad who is the fourth) talking. 

I especially wanted to hear what Snappy sounded like, as well as her personality; she seems like a cute character, being the “cutest camera” and all! 

In my opinion, it's quite strange they did not showcase these new toys AT ALL in the trailer; new characters are supposed to be a main draw of a new movie instalment, no?

Besides that, however, this was an absolutely phenomenal movie trailer, with the level of quality I expect from Pixar. Literally gave me goosebumps the whole time, lol. So glad they finally released the trailer, after what seemed like an eternity.

“Backpack” poster thoughts

This poster looks amazing! (Although it should've premiered on Superbowl day instead of 5 days later; strike while the iron is hot.)

Was pleasantly surprised to wake up to this poster a couple weeks ago; I genuinely love how it looks. The shadows/shading on the characters is sooo nice.

Personally I would’ve liked the colours to be a little more saturated, as they look somewhat dull aside from Lilypad who is a very bright green.

But, overall, this poster looks phenomenal; love how all the toys are packed together inside Bonnie’s (admittedly) cool-looking backpack.

Smarty Pants looks kind of cute in this poster with his nervous smile, lol. Although I'm personally not familiar with who Conan O’ Brien is, he seems like a nice guy, so I am interested to see what his character will be like in the movie.

Snappy seems like she’ll (how does one tell the gender of a camera, btw?) be a really cute character to watch. I feel like she'll be that comic relief character in kids’ shows/movies who has a cute, marketable, kids-will-love character design; has a sweet and funny personality, and likes to crack jokes. Her character’s tagline, “The cutest camera” hints to that.

Also, I like Snappy’s purplish colour.

I won't be talking about the theatrical release poster because I personally like the backpack poster a lot more. However, I do prefer the theatrical poster’s depiction of Snappy over the backpack poster’s depiction; she looks cute peeking out like that, lol.
